10 June 2005: 3 for 2 in Toronto I: Boa and the drive
[song: evan and jaron - crazy for this girl]
[song 2: goo goo dolls - iris]
I drove, as usual. The four-hour drive here took at least six and a half hours thanks to an absolutely insane amount of traffic in Detroit and a rather long line at Canadian customs.
Although my desk has God-knows-what foreign currency strewn across it, although my Gatorade bottle is in French, although my phones are running on different networks, and although I’ve crossed an international border, the air on this hotel’s 8th floor balcony is still indescribably domestic. Indiscriminately domestic.
We went to Boa Redux in Chinatown. For all the hype, the club was balls. Our time consisted of sitting on the patio talking to a frequent (and rolling) Toronto clubber about the Toronto electronica scene. Boa was a total sausagefest, and the cover was $20 CDN. Something in me still won’t write Boa off as a waste of my time. I enjoyed it.
Jordan’s here to get over his ex-girl. Yin’s here to meet up with his cousin. I can look over the city’s skyline all night and I still couldn’t give you a valid reason as to why I went on this trip. Actually, if anything, this trip has reminded me why I love travel. I reinvent myself. Somehow, detached from mundane responsibility, I have the time to see my huge mistakes. I can [at] least attempt to correct them.
And tonight at Boa, I found one of those faults in myself. And it’s one that I don’t believe is repairable in a lifetime.
